19 3rd Graders and 2 Goldfish

We've added two new members to our family. After the passing of our last class pet, Michael Phelps (may he rest in peace), my kids were begging for a new pet. They really wanted a dog, but settled for goldfish. Please help me welcome Bubbles and Buddy, goldfish extraordinaire. (I asked for immortal ones so these should be the last class pets).

On another note, this is a funny kid-saying that happened today. Granted it didn't happen in my classroom, but it was my student and it was definitely blog-worthy. In 3rd grade we departmentalize so 4 days a week our kids rotate between the grade-level teachers.

Anyway, the discussion was on Hurricane Katrina. Per usual, kids like to share stories that are (most of the time) on topic. My student raised her hand and said, "I have a cousin named after Hurricane Katrina. She's 22." And scene.
